Corporate Social Responsibility

Dekker Zevenhuizen is a real family-owned business, and continuity is our main goal. This is why we believe corporate social responsibility is a matter of course. We're not about short-term profits; we aim to run the business in a way that ensures Dekker's success for the next 100 years. Moreover, we strive to meet today's demands without compromising the needs of future generations.

This involves much more than just the environment. It encompasses the entire context of business, including human, environmental and economic facets. This loyalty to the future applies to the design of the production process as well as to how we engage with our staff, the supply chain, and the immediate environment.

Sustainable materials

Reducing material usage, seeking reusable materials with a lower footprint, and developing new products from leftover materials: these are our ongoing efforts. Sustainable materials with the same properties and more affordable than traditional wood or stone are plentiful. That's why we believe sustainable choices are achievable for everyone.

Good employership

We believe that good employership is crucial for the continuity of our company. This requires sharing with and investing in people, which is exactly what we do: We offer our employees good working conditions and facilities, a pleasant work environment, and share in the company's results. We value long-term relationships that provide job security and strive to be an attractive employer. Acceptance and integration of people with disabilities or who are further from the labor market than average characterise our company.

Environmental care

We aim to prevent our production activities from unnecessarily burdening the environment at all times. Therefore, we have implemented a certified environmental management system that helps us minimise the environmental impact of Dekker Zevenhuizen, for instance through waste separation, limiting hazardous substances, and water purification.

Carbon neutral practices

A carbon neutral approach is vital to us. We implement energy-saving measures, procure green energy, and pay close attention to transportation and mobility. Since 1998, we have operated a biomass plant using residual wood from the factory to provide heat for offices, production areas, and third-party buildings. Wood burning for heating is considered carbon neutral, and by using leftover sheet materials on-site as fuel, there is no additional transportation needed for disposal!

Dekker Zevenhuizen operates carbon neutral. However, there are aspects that fall outside production, such as the transportation of our countertops and mobility for customer visits and business trips. We reduce our footprint by planting forests through Trees for All.

Society and charity

The production site, office, and showroom of Dekker Zevenhuizen are located within the boundaries of the municipality of Zuidplas, formerly known as Zevenhuizen/Moerkapelle. Residents of the municipality are connected to Dekker Zevenhuizen in multiple ways: as employees, suppliers, and/or stakeholders, whether or not through local community projects. We value a good relationship with the municipality and support local cultural heritage, activities, and initiatives by our employees. Additionally, Dekker Zevenhuizen supports several charities, including Ronald McDonald Kinderfonds Nederland, Villa Pardoes, Familiehuis Daniel den Hoed, Clini Clowns, Stichting ALS Nederland, Het Nederlandse Rode Kruis, het Oogstfeest, V.V. Groeneweg and Stichting Oranje Zevenhuizen.

Responsible procurement

We are aware of CSR risks in our supply chain, particularly with non-European material suppliers and in the accessory supply chain. There is a growing awareness to 'improve the world-start with yourself' within the supply chain. Dekker Zevenhuizen therefore maps and monitors the CSR risks within the chain, and takes action where necessary. This also entails offering fair prices to our suppliers, as they too must ensure continuity. Therefore, we do not opt for the lowest price, but a fair one. During supplier visits, social and environmental conditions of suppliers are also examined, especially those with elevated CSR risks.
